| The
Cheapside Hoard in the Museum of London. The jewels
were found in 1912 when workmen dug in Cheapside in
London, and it is believed they belonged to the stock
of either a tradesman or a pawnbroker. They are not
the diamonds and precious pearls of the aristocracy,
but reflect the tastes and prices of the upper middle
classes, showing a lot of enamel as well as semi precious
stones. The cut of the jewels points to the 17th century,
but many items still have a very late 16th century feel
about them. It is being mainly dated to the early 17th
